Lecture 4 material is covered in Chapter 4 of Energy Systems & Sustainability, 2/e (2012) and describes the forms that energy can take and how we can quantitate the amount of energy they produce. We'll walk through a fair amount of energy math to develop your energy literacy and make you feel more at more at home when thinking about amounts of energy and the methods used to harvest them.
Much of this material will be discussed in more qualitative detail later in the course.
4.1: Kinetic energy
4.2: Potential energy
4.3: Thermal energy
4.4: Chemical energy
4.5: Energy density
4.6: Electromagnetic radiation
4.7: Nuclear energy
4.9: Summary of forms of energy
